ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Our client is a Manhattan-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic independence for women through the provision of resources and support to women entrepreneurs. Their mission is to catalyze the growth of post-start-up, women-owned businesses into sustainable enterprises. Over the past nine years, they have developed and delivered comprehensive programs that combine financial support, education, marketing assistance, mentoring and technology tools designed to help women business owners develop their businesses into viable organizations capable of generating a $1 million or more in annual revenue.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Director of Technology is a key strategic position – as a member of the leadership team, the Director will collaborate with the COO and Director of Programs/Alumni Relations to develop and maintain a set of web-based tools and services that support the strategy of the organization. The Director will manage the internal technology of the organization, as well as its external web presence – e.g., they will oversee the development of a seamless user interface where entrepreneurs can access tools and services. The Director will report to the COO, and manage a technology support team. They will also manage vendors who will develop and manage the applications and platform.

Specifically, the Director of Technology will:

  • Build and maintain technology architecture
  • Migrate existing platforms into single system that will support growth
    • Provide strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems for the organization
  • Recognize new developments in information systems technology and anticipate organizational needs and modifications
  • Ensure confidentiality and reliability of corporate data, proprietary information, and intellectual property
  • Manage relationships with external technology vendors to create and implement a detailed executable plan
  • Facilitate communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within the organization
  • Manage design, implementation and evaluation of multiple information and communications systems and projects, including voice, data, imaging, and office automation
  • With the support of the technology support team, oversee internal technology operations of organization's staff
  • Develop and implement user-training programs
  • Oversee and evaluate system security and back-up procedures
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years experience in web-based businesses (for-profit, not-for-profit, or public sector), with expertise in building multi-media platforms and technology applications
  • Self-motivator who is independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
  • General knowledge of business processes and their interrelationships – e.g.,ability to "think like an entrepreneur," with a preference for direct entrepreneurial experience
  • Strong and effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication
  • Ability to translate business requirements into viable technology practices
  • Strong project management skills along with strong sense of ownership of process and results
  • Familiarity with LAN and WAN design, implementation, and operation
  • Experience with database servers
  • Knowledge of three or more of the following: Microsoft Sharepoint 2007, Apache, Microsoft IIS, Websphere, Weblogic, ATG, Symfony, Send, .NET.
  • Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows, Unix, and Linux.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to manage vendors with proficiency in, languages such as C#, C++, C, Java, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby.
