ABOUT THE POSITION:
Given our client’s plans to significantly increase the impact of their alumni team and the alumni movement in the coming years, this is an opportunity for significant leadership at a critical time in our client’s history. The Director of alumni engagement reports to the Managing Director of alumni engagement and infrastructure and is a member of the national alumni affairs team.
The Director of alumni engagement is responsible for supporting the 2010 goal of engaging 50% of our client’s alumni in donating time and/or money back (to our client). Our client is in the process of building a best-in-class alumni giving program that taps the talent, time, and financial resources of their 14,000 alumni to strengthen current programs and position our client as an enduring American institution. They have made substantial progress on financial giving, but need an out of the box thinker to help them:
- Expand existing donor and volunteer campaigns·
- Develop scalable strategies for engaging and retaining alumni donors; and
- Cultivate a deep and lasting commitment in their alumni to tangibly support our client in executing its mission.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with internal development teams to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy on alumni donations and 2nd year corps member giving, with a particular focus on retaining previous donors as we scale up to our 2010 goals
- Creating materials and strategy for national engagement campaigns, with a particular emphasis on scalable campaigns to engage alumni volunteers
- Maximizing existing volunteer opportunities for alumni with other national teams and building organizational support for new volunteer programs
- Developing and supporting alumni champions for our client in various corps years and regions to drive engagement efforts
- Researching best practices around engagement through university and nonprofit models and applying lessons to our own efforts
- Analyzing data on effectiveness of engagement strategies to improve practices
- Utilizing data to segment our alumni population and focus pitches and outreach
- Supporting regional teams in the development and marketing of volunteer opportunities
- Managing financial reporting and acknowledgement process of alumni donations with support from an engagement specialist
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3+ years of professional experience
- Experience managing projects to reach and exceed ambitious goals required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong strategic, analytical, creative and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and across organizational teams
- Adaptable to an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, diverse, results-oriented culture
- Strong sense of possibility
- Moderate travel required
