ABOUT THE POSITION:

New Profit is seeking a passionate, proactive professional to lead its Urban Assets Initiative. The Director will serve as the lead interface between pilot efforts unfolding at the local level in cities, national and local champions, funders, and thought partners. This is a new position for the organization, and the individual will work with the organization’s senior team to build out the program. The Director will manage the Initiative’s budget and, ultimately, junior staff. Fundraising responsibilities will also be involved. This is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven individual who is energized by the idea of helping a visionary organization expand its reach and impact. The ideal candidate is adept at building and activating a community, forging relationships with key stakeholders, and identifying and responding to opportunities. Primary responsibilities will include day-to-day leadership and management of the Initiative, including:

  • Identifying partners working on the ground in local communities, supporting collaborative working relationships in and among stakeholder groups (including civic leaders, local service providers, funders, and social entrepreneurs), and aligning communities around common strategy and success metrics.
  • Being the primary external representative for the organization in a wide array of settings on all matters that frame scaling social innovation through a place-based lens
  • Being the primary contact for the Initiative with city stakeholders, social entrepreneurs, contractors, etc.
  • Planning and execution of meetings and events with representatives from all stakeholder groups
  • Contributing to content creation for communication materials (e.g., website, white papers, op-eds)
  • Supporting fundraising for the Initiative and, if required, raising additional resources for the Initiative
  • Reporting on the Initiative’s progress to funders and other key community members as necessary
  • Managing additional staff supporting the Initiative
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduate degree preferred with a multi-disciplinary skill set
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience. Preferred experience includes work with social entrepreneurs, community-based organizations, and local or state government
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal maturity and poise
  • Exceptional ability to develop new conceptual models for social change and translate them into powerful program approaches
  • Superior organizational and process management skills
  • Flexibility, and a high comfort level with ambiguity and entrepreneurship
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Compensation competitive for the not-for-profit sector, commensurate with experience.

FLEXIBILITY:

Full-time role in a flexible, entrepreneurial culture. Candidate preference for a Boston area candidate, but candidates open to temporary collocation will also be considered.
