About the Organization

charity: water is a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. We're doing this by funding reliable, effective local partners and inspiring a community of generous people to give their time, talent and money. Since 2006, charity: water has funded more than 30,000 water projects in 26 countries around the world, helping 9.6 million people get access to clean and safe water, hygiene education and improved sanitation. Our goal is to end the water crisis in our lifetime by ensuring that every person on the planet has access to life's most basic need.

100% of public donations directly fund water projects. We cover our operating costs separately through a private group of about 130 donors, foundations and sponsors who make up a program called The Well, and allow us to sustain this ambitious model. Since our very first water project, we have made a commitment to our donors to report back to them on how and where every dollar was spent, and we prove every project with GPS coordinates on Google Maps. We have set new standards with our approach to transparency and our use of technology to tackle the world's water crisis.

Our unique approach has contributed to our rapid growth, and in 12 years, we have raised over $362M from more than one million supporters. For more information, please visit:
