Launched in 2000 out of a Bronx public high school, DonorsChoose has since raised more than $1 billion to fund almost 2 million classroom projects from 600,000+ teachers at 80% of all the public schools in America, overwhelmingly in low-income communities. Equal parts education charity and tech company, DonorsChoose is a nonprofit striving to do profound good in the world amidst the kind of innovation, agility, and data rigor associated with the highest-performing startups. Our 14 board members (half women, majority people of color) include CEOs of major companies, Stephen Colbert, and three teacher users of our site.

About the Position

DonorsChoose is seeking a strategic, collaborative Vice President of Partnerships to lead its Partnership Management (PM) team. This leader will develop and execute strategies to guide the PM team to achieve its revenue goals through thoughtfully crafted ongoing relationships with corporate and philanthropic partners. The Vice President will report directly to the Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer, and manage eight direct reports on the PM team.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of leading and growing partnerships, managing a high performing team, and developing strategies to drive growth and innovation. In concert with the CEO, CMO, and PM team, this VP will design and execute a partnership management plan to secure funding towards DonorsChoose's annual partnerships goal of $60 million.

In this role, you'll:

Set strategy for the team

  • Strategically plan for meeting PM team sales goals for revenue generation and growth rate, towards an initial goal of $60 million annually

  • Develop a deep understanding of DonorsChoose's unique partnerships and deals, at both the big picture and individual partnership level, so as to spot new opportunities for growth among existing partnerships

  • Partner with the Business Development team and Partnership Activation team to ensure seamless transition, excellent execution and overall impact

Lead a team of eight high performing manager and directors

  • Manage and coach the team, with a focus on growing sales, supporting individual employee growth, and fostering collaboration among the team

  • Monitor pipeline & goal progress, ensuring that individual goals are aligned to the department's key results and organizational strategy; pivot and troubleshoot as needed

  • Continue to engender and build a team culture of support, shared accountability, and collaboration

Serve as an organizational leader, inside and outside of the organization

  • Collaborate across the organization and leadership teams to align the PM team's strategic vision with broader organizational goals

  • Represent DonorsChoose in select partnerships discussions, supporting and collaborating with team members and advancing organizational priorities

LOCATION: The vast majority of the DonorsChoose 150-person team works out of our NYC office and we would strongly prefer that our next VP, Partnerships do so, as well.

  • You can execute in complex and multi-faceted situations. You have experience translating strategy into operational plans and executing project plans involving multiple stakeholders.

You believe that advancing racial equity is one of the most important ways to make a difference in the world and can make sound decisions to advance racial equity goals. You learn every angle of the business; you like to think about how to collaborate with different departments across the organization to hit your goals, from sales to marketing to operations and finance.

  • You bring a creative lens to solutions. You are comfortable forging a path in the face of ambiguity and complexity; in fact, you view this as an opportunity for innovation.

  • When you're working for a cause that you believe in, you don't give up.

  • You have at least 8 years of relevant work experience.

  • College degree or commensurate years of experience (8+) required.

Compensation and benefits:

Compensation for this role is competitive with equivalent roles at other nonprofits of our size. In addition, we offer full-time staff 25 paid vacation days per year and 10 paid holidays, a rich employer-paid individual and family health plan, annual professional development stipend, and casual and flexible work environment.
