For nearly 40 years, INCLUDEnyc (formerly known as Resources for Children with Special Needs) has been a leader in disability information, training, and direct assistance. Our mission is to foster bright futures for young people (birth to age 26) with any disability by creating access to educational, employment, and independent living opportunities, and advocating for meaningful inclusion for young people with disabilities in the community. About the Position

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will serve as a visionary and dynamic leader focused on long-term growth and success. The ED will lead the execution of INCLUDEnyc's strategic plan and oversee the successful operation of a 41-person organization. The ED will serve as an external representative and advocate for young people with disabilities and their families and will devote significant time and efforts to the organization's fundraising from government, institutional and other sources, to strengthen relationships with existing funding partners and cultivate new sources of revenue to grow INCLUDEnyc's $5M budget.

Key Responsibilities: Organizational Leadership

  • Work in partnership with the Board of Directors to develop, communicate, and sustain a clear vision, mission, and strategy for the organization
  • Represent INCLUDEnyc in the community at large, serving as spokesperson for the organization in a range of contexts
  • Promote INCLUDEnyc's visibility and policy agenda by developing and maintaining robust relationships with the press, public officials and other city, state, and national groups
  • Drive organization-wide results with inspirational leadership, effective management, and well-defined objectives with accountability
  • In collaboration with the Senior Staff, retain and develop a high performing team; ensure effective goal-setting, meaningful evaluation, and strong communication
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization through training, oversight, and staff supervision
  • Promote effective internal communication and morale among unionized staff and management

External Leadership and Fundraising

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Development, develop a robust funding strategy with a focus on increased growth and diversification
  • Develop fundraising activities to support program growth by sourcing, attracting, and retaining corporate, institutional, government, and major donors to meet/exceed fundraising goals
  • Represent INCLUDEnyc effectively with donors, partners, and other stakeholders across a wide variety of settings
  • Continue to promote awareness of INCLUDEnyc and its outcomes and accomplishments, with a goal of increasing brand awareness and support
  • Maintain an active and visible presence in the community and work closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations

Programming and Outcomes

  • In collaboration with the Deputy Executive Director of Programs, develop, implement, monitor, and refine programming to advance INCLUDEnyc's goals and extend the organization's reach into new programs and communities
  • Support INCLUDEnyc in achieving its goal of serving more hard to reach communities throughout NYC
  • Be an effective steward of resources via disciplined budgeting and planning

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years work experience, including experience in nonprofit advocacy, disabilities, human services, or special education arenas
  • Experience in a team-oriented culture with ability to effectively lead, manage, and motivate a large, diverse team to achieve program goals
  • Proven track record of leading successful fundraising efforts, ideally with experience working with institutional, individual, and government donors
  • Experience working with non-profit and/or government partners
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal service systems; understanding of government contracts preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of managing change
  • Ability and desire to collaborate effectively with donors, volunteers, staff, Board, and families from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Proven track record of managing a complex organization
  • Outstanding organizational skills with proven ability to create and implement efficient operational systems through strategic plans, setting and managing objectives, and analyzing and mitigating risks
  • Ability to create and manage budgets
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and competency working with racial, cultural and economic diversity
  • Relentlessly positive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to find innovative ways to grow an organization
  • Passionate belief in the inclusion of people with disabilities, educational and disability justice, and racial equity
  • Experience providing, directing and/or supporting services for individuals with disabilities preferred
  • Experience working with unionized staff preferred
  • Bachelor's degree
