What You'll Do
This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who thrives at leading in high-growth, dynamic settings to apply those skills towards transforming politics and restoring democracy. The Chief Impact and Operating Officer will serve as the senior most leader partnering with the founding CEO to oversee core functions across New Politics and New Politics Leadership Academy. Reporting directly to, and working hand-in-hand with the CEO, the Chief Impact and Operating Officer will build systems and processes to support the organization's ambitious growth plans. They will directly manage department leaders, coaching and developing the team while building and maintaining a positive and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the executive team, lead and manage all department heads, and work closely with the CEO to achieve New Politics' aggressive goals for growth in the number of campaigns run and new leaders in office
- Build and drive a high performing fundraising function, achieving ambitious growth goals for both 501c3 and political funding
- Directly lead strategic, high-priority initiatives that impact the entire organization, increasing both collaboration and effectiveness
- Build systems and processes that enable New Politics to scale, focusing on both efficiency and community experience
- Design systems and frameworks to set priorities, allocate resources, and manage organizational performance against outcomes
- In partnership with the CEO, proactively manage the financial health of the organization
- Serve as a model of New Politics' values and actively work to ensure the vision and values are alive and present in all areas of the organization and its work
People Management
- Directly manage the organization's department heads, providing coaching, recruiting, and accountability as the organization continues to scale
- Oversee best-in-class talent practices that prioritizes New Politics' commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion across all dimensions (e.g., recruitment/hiring, coaching/development, compensation, and retention)
- In partnership with the CEO, cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about operational performance against stated milestones and goals
- Develop and implement organization-wide processes with a forward-looking view, a commitment to excellence, and a customer-service oriented approach (i.e., operations in service to the broader work, not as an obstacle)
Who You'll Work With
- You will report to the Founder and CEO
- You will supervise the Director of Communications, Director of Development, Director of Campaigns, Director of Recruitment and Talent, Director of Programs
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience or comparable experience, including some experience with electoral politics and a minimum of five years of senior leadership experience across multiple functions
- Demonstrated success at driving strong growth, with excellence, in an organization large than New Politics' current scale
- Exceptional team management and operational skills, with the ability to establish best-in-class systems and processes in order to maximize efficiency and deliver high-quality results across an organization
- Excellent people management skills with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams to achieve ambitious results
- A willingness to balance big picture thinking with being a hands-on leader; imparts credibility, trust, enthusiasm, and integrity, and motivates others
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to organize and interpret data, generate insights, and anticipate challenges and opportunities
- Experience leading strategic planning and subsequently operationalize the strategy into tactical implementation
- Passion for New Politics' mission to improve our politics and revitalize our democracy
- Alignment with the values of servant leadership: empathy, courage, integrity
- Growth mindset, openness to feedback, knows what they don't know (low ego), and desire to grow with the team
Additional Details
Location and Work Environment
New Politics is a remote organization. Applicants must be based in the continental United States and be willing to travel on occasion for campaign visits, meetings, and events.
