What You'll Do
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead the organization's financial operations. This position requires deep nonprofit accounting knowledge, strong audit preparation skills, and admin-level expertise in Sage Intacct. The Accounting Manager will lead the financial components of grants management—tracking restricted funding, managing grant budgets, and preparing financial reports. This role also manages all payroll and time tracking functions and supports broader finance responsibilities such as audit prep, expense review, and cross-system coordination. They will partner closely with the Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO), along with the Senior Manager, Grants Operations, who oversees the systems, processes, and reporting side of grant oversight.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including monthly and annual close
- Maintain accurate general ledger, project codes, and fund balances in line with GAAP
- Serve as Sage Intacct administrator: manage configuration, reporting, dashboards, and system support
- Prepare financial reports for leadership, board, and funders; support budgeting and forecasting
Financial Grants Management
- Oversee grant-related financial activity, including restricted funds and budget-to-actuals, to ensure accurate tracking and strategic fund utilization
- Lead preparation of funder reports and compliance documentation to support audit readiness and transparency
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Grants Operations to drive system alignment (e.g., Salesforce) and ensure seamless grant tracking and closeout processes
Payroll, Time Tracking, & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with tax and regulatory requirements
- Oversee timekeeping systems and ensure alignment with federal, state, and local labor laws
- Partner with HR to manage benefits administration and maintain compliant, audit-ready payroll and benefits records
Expense, Systems, and Onboarding Oversight
- Oversee expense review, vendor payments, and reimbursements to ensure compliance with policies and accurate financial coding
- Partner with the CFOO to lead improvements to finance operations, systems integration, and internal controls
- Contribute to the development and refinement of financial policies, procedures, and documentation
- Lead and continuously improve onboarding and team enablement, developing tools and systems that support new hires, strengthen retention, and promote cross-team knowledge sharing
Audit Support & Internal Controls
- Partner with the CFOO to lead the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors
- Prepare audit schedules and documentation in partnership with the CFOO, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Maintain audit-ready financial records and strengthen internal controls and documentation practices year-round
- Other duties as assigned
Who You'll Work With
- You will report to the Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO).
Required Skills and Experience
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- CPA or equivalent credential (strongly preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years in a nonprofit setting
- Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and restricted revenue tracking
- Experience leading financial grants management and preparing reports for foundation and/or government funders
- Proven experience supporting annual audit preparation and coordination
- Proficient in full-cycle payroll processing, benefits oversight, and labor law compliance
- Admin-level experience with Sage Intacct (required)
- Familiarity with Expensify, bill.com, and integrated financial systems
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management in a remote work environment
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented, and mission-aligned
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting Salesforce–Sage Intacct integration
- Experience working with philanthropic or intermediary nonprofit organizations
- Comfort working in a remote environment with cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with Asana, Slack, Google Workspace, or other collaborative tools
Additional Details
Location and Work Environment
Remote. Preference for candidates based in Eastern and Central timezones.
