What You'll Do
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Technology and Reporting will provide strategic leadership over UDAR's technology infrastructure, data platforms, user support services, and information security. This role is pivotal in ensuring secure, scalable, and innovative systems that support NYU's advancement goals. By overseeing enterprise CRM tools, data warehouses, reporting frameworks, and IT operations, the AVP ensures all technological investments and processes align with UDAR's mission and the University's broader priorities. This leader's contributions will directly support UDAR's mission to deepen relationships and secure resources that power NYU's academic excellence and global impact.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Technology Strategy & Innovation
- Lead strategic initiatives to enhance UDAR's core platforms, including CRM systems, cloud-based integrations, and data warehouses
- Align technology systems with fundraising, engagement, and compliance goals
- Drive collaboration across departments and with NYU IT to deliver secure and scalable solutions
- Direct the implementation of scalable cybersecurity strategies across cloud and on-premises systems
- Ensure compliance with NYU's information security policies and national standards
Departmental Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise 3 direct reports and 11 indirect reports across multiple technology functions
- Lead performance evaluations, staffing decisions, and professional development
- Provide guidance and prioritize assignments to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Serve as the department's primary contact for technical support staff coordination
Operations & Project Oversight
- Manage daily operations of Application Development, Business Intelligence, and User Support teams
- Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and interdepartmental coordination
- Track status of all technology projects, providing timely updates to senior leadership
- Lead technical communication on upgrades and system changes across teams
- Prepare technical specifications and procurement strategies for IT infrastructure
Reporting & Data Services
- Champion data-driven decision-making across UDAR
- Lead development of advanced analytics and reporting tools to guide fundraising and engagement
- Improve data quality standards and reporting capabilities to meet operational needs
- Ensure staff are equipped with robust IT training and technical support services
- Partner with business units to increase adoption of analytics tools
Vendor & Budget Management
- Manage a $100K+ departmental budget for infrastructure, software, and services
- Develop short- and long-term recommendations for technology purchases
- Evaluate and negotiate vendor contracts in coordination with Procurement
- Conduct market assessments and recommend efficient hardware/software solutions
- Liaise with NYU IT to align systems and vendor partnerships with enterprise-wide strategy
Risk Management & Incident Response
- Design and lead incident response protocols for potential security breaches
- Coordinate response efforts with NYU IT and compliance offices
- Maintain and update disaster recovery plans and endpoint security policies
- Conduct regular risk assessments and confirm methods align with university standards
Who You'll Work With
- You will report to the Associate Vice President, Advancement Services and Analytics.
- You will supervise three direct reports and eleven indirect reports across Application Development, Business Intelligence, and User Support teams.
- You will frequently collaborate with NYU Central IT and Global Information Security – to align cybersecurity, infrastructure, and strategic IT goals; UDAR Senior Leadership and Fundraising Units – to identify and prioritize systems that support engagement and fundraising effectiveness; External vendors and technology consultants – to ensure high-performing, cost-effective platforms and support.
Required Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of experience in technology systems, data management, or analytics, including team management responsibilities
- Deep expertise with CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud CRM), data integration tools, and business intelligence platforms
- Demonstrated success managing cross-functional technology teams, including application development, analytics, and user support
- Strong knowledge of information security practices, including endpoint protection, infrastructure security, and compliance with enterprise security programs
- Familiarity with predictive analytics and reporting tools such as Tableau and Microsoft BI Stack
- Proficiency in API integrations and scalable technology infrastructure across cloud and on-premise systems
- Proven ability to ensure data accuracy, quality, and legitimacy across systems, with adherence to institutional privacy standards
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with a track record of executing complex IT initiatives on time and within budget
- Superior critical thinking and problem solving skills, with a track record of solving complex problems in the face of ambiguity
- Experience leading major system implementations or conversions, ideally in a higher education advancement setting
- Ability to align technology strategy with institutional and departmental goals to support fundraising and alumni engagement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for non-technical stakeholders
- Skilled in building collaborative relationships with internal departments, senior leadership, vendors, and external consultants
- Proven experience communicating change initiatives, training users, and supporting system adoption
- Experience managing departmental budgets, including forecasting and cost optimization
- Ability to assess vendor proposals, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related technical discipline preferred
- Experience working in a large, decentralized university environment, especially within advancement services or alumni relations preferred

Location and Work Environment
New York, NY; UDAR encourages work-life integration for all employees, therefore this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
Compensation
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $205,000.00 to USD $255,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
