What You'll Do
New Profit seeks a strategic and systems-oriented Chief Finance and Operations Officer to sustain and strengthen the organization's financial health, steward innovation in our internal operations, and serve as a key advisor in the modeling and integration of expanded revenue streams. As a core member of the executive leadership team, this person will be a key advisor to the CEO, President, and Chief of Staff on strategy and finance.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Finance and Operations Officer will provide oversight for core content areas including finance, accounting, talent operations, technology, and general operations. A critical part of this role will be supporting the organization and its leaders in expanding their knowledge and skill of financial operations, from budgeting to forecasting. The Chief Finance and Operations Officer will also direct the development of new systems, policies, and procedures that enhance efficiency and strengthen our core ability to drive impact.
This role blends strategic insight with operational execution, proactively identifying opportunities, challenges, and solutions that drive the organization forward. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who embraces change and brings a strategic mindset to evolving business needs. Partnering closely with the CEO, the Chief Finance and Operations Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping New Profit's strategic plan, ensuring the organization is positioned to meet growing needs across the sector, extend and widen our funding pipeline, and institute durable practices across our financial, talent, technology, and logistical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership
- Serve as a member of New Profit's Executive Team, collaborating with other leaders to help drive the organization's vision and strategy
- Champion change management initiatives and foster innovation within the organization
- Serve as an exemplar for inclusive and equitable team management, modeling The M.I.C.™
- Build systems and processes that will enable our Finance, Talent, and Operations teams to work together collaboratively and effectively
Team Management
- Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing and diverse team working across key infrastructure areas, including but not limited to finance, revenue, talent (led by a Managing Partner), IT systems, and facilities
- Create a customer-oriented team culture, focused on providing timely and accurate information along with robust finance and operations support
Financial Leadership
- Lead New Profit's Finance Operating Unit (OU)
- In partnership with the CEO and leadership team, develop financial strategy– setting short- and long-term financial goals through sophisticated financial forecasting and scenario planning, informed by accurate and real-time financial information
- Drive firm's overall sustainability with strategies that lead to continued growth
- Oversee annual budget process
- Optimize and upgrade financial and analytics platforms to provide robust, real-time information to organizational leaders
Operations Leadership
- Oversee staff responsible for facilities and logistics management
- Oversee vendor management and space planning for firmwide in-person events
- Create a thoughtful "buy first" technology strategy that drives growth, manages costs, and enables data-driven and data-informed business practices
- Establish a comprehensive governance strategy that facilitates seamless and collaborative processes between business units and IT
- Co-lead firmwide management of legal affairs, insurance, and other risk management strategies
Board & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with New Profit's Finance and Revenue Committees and our Board of Directors ensuring all Board members clearly understand the organization's financial and operational position, health, and sustainability
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, community leaders, and business partners
Who You'll Work With
You will report to the CEO.
You will supervise Partners and Managing Partners in the following infrastructure areas, including but not limited to finance, revenue, talent, IT systems, and facilities.
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 15+ years of professional experience, with 5+ years leading the finance function for a complex organization (including budget development, financial forecasting, and complex accounting) and experience overseeing and streamlining systems to enable growth
- Demonstrated passion for and commitment to New Profit's mission through leadership experience in high-growth, entrepreneurial organizations
- Desire to build on New Profit's strong history while advancing its infrastructural, operational, and adaptive capabilities to meet and scale future opportunities
- Exceptional strategic thinking skills with a track record of translating big picture strategy into workable systems for actionable plans and day-to-day operations
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and create an environment where strategic guidance is embraced at all levels
- Knowledge of financial operations within the philanthropic space, particularly around innovate grants (e.g. recoverable grants, pay for success, first loss grant capital, challenge grants) highly preferred
- Committed to inclusive leadership and skilled at managing/working across lines of difference
- Possess strong learning orientation and the desire to constantly improve and adapt
Additional Details
Compensation
The salary range for the position will be $294,218 - $348,444 annually, with the exact salary depending on prior work experience and the assessment of one's fit for the role. As part of its commitment to salary equity, New Profit has a zero negotiation policy on offers but provides all candidates a 10% signing bonus on their base.
