What You'll Do
We are seeking a strategic Chief Finance and Operating Officer (CFOO) to join Coro California at a pivotal moment of integration and growth. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will serve as the organizational architect, leading finance, human capital strategy, and enterprise operations. The CFOO will ensure strong fiscal stewardship while building the HR infrastructure and operational systems necessary to support Coro's statewide impact, long-term sustainability, and growth.
In this role, you will take primary ownership of Coro's financial health and operational strategy, overseeing budgeting and forecasting, while strengthening HR functions to drive talent development and performance. Managing a team of four, the CFOO will bring vision and structure to functions that are evolving post-merger, driving collaboration across departments and ensuring statewide operational alignment.
This is an ideal role for a strategic operator with nonprofit finance and operational expertise who can move seamlessly between spreadsheets and enterprise-level strategy, board conversations, and day-to-day execution, bringing both rigor and practicality to building the people-centered infrastructure that powers Coro's work across California.

- Manage and develop a high-impact finance and operations team of four, including mentoring emerging leaders and supporting professional growth
- Support post-merger integration by building aligned systems, structures, and operating rhythms across regions
- Contribute to organization-wide strategy by bringing a financial and operational lens to key decisions and trade-offs
- Partner cross-functionally with program, partnerships, and leadership teams to ensure alignment between strategy, budget, and execution, advancing strategic priorities
Financial Strategy & Budget Management
- Lead all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow management, and oversight of external accounting partners
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data, including audits, tax filings (e.g., Form 990), and compliance with nonprofit best practices
- Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights to support executive decision-making and Board engagement
- Partner with executive and program leadership to align budgets, revenue projections, and grant/contract management with programmatic goals, while supporting financial planning for organizational growth and statewide expansion
- Strengthen financial systems and processes to support transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability
Operations, Human Resources & Infrastructure Management
- Build and refine operational infrastructure, updating legacy systems as needed, to support a growing, statewide organization
- Lead human resources strategy, including hiring, performance management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and professional development, with an eye toward long-term health and succession planning
- Oversee organizational risk management, insurance, and safety protocols, ensuring policies and procedures are current, effective, and well-understood
- Direct statewide administrative operations, including HR, technology infrastructure (systems selection, implementation, data security, IT support), and facilities management across Bay Area and Los Angeles offices
- Manage and strengthen relationships with external vendors (e.g. HR, IT, accounting, insurance, facilities), ensuring high-quality, cost-effective support
- Support the continued evolution of program operations in partnership with program leadership, helping to clarify roles, workflows, and ownership in a post-merger context

Equity at Coro
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
Since Coro's founding in 1942, in addition to preparing future leaders, the organization also explored questions about the inextricable links between diversity and the establishment of a thriving democracy. Specifically: Are there blocks within human nature that work against the acceptance of diversity, which is so necessary in a democracy? Is there a "political intelligence" that any human being, of whatever age, ethnic allegiance, experience and so on, can use to resolve differences and make decisions?
For decades, Coro programs have explored these questions with a fundamental belief that we need more people who can work and lead across difference — and that knowing, appreciating, and having meaningful relationships with a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and lived experiences, often embodied by race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, and political ideology, is a requirement for leading in a thriving democracy.
