Starlight Children's Foundation is the broadest-reaching charity focused on seriously ill children—partnering with more than 800 hospitals and healthcare facilities across the U.S. With Starlight's programs, kids are immersed in play-based care which is crucial to supporting their healing process during hospitalization.

About the Organization

Who We Are

Starlight Children's Foundation delivers happiness to seriously ill children and their families. No matter the length, hospital stays can be lonely, stressful, and scary. That's why Starlight exists. We make hospitals easier places for kids to be. Our vital programs help prepare kids for treatments, distract them from endless pokes or pain, alleviate stress, and ease boredom – because healing begins with happiness™.

We believe all children deserve to enjoy the magic, wonder and happiness of childhood, and we're committed to providing Starlight programs to every seriously ill child in our network of more than 800 children's hospitals and community health partners across the U.S. Since 1982, Starlight has brought comfort to millions of kids with serious illnesses each year across the U.S. at no cost to the family or our hospital partners.

What We Do

Starlight delivers programs to seriously ill children by providing essential support throughout their healthcare journey—both at hospitals and at home. Starlight programs are carefully crafted to meet the needs of seriously ill children at every stage of their healthcare journey.

  • Starlight Hospital Gowns - Replace traditional hospital gowns with colorful, character-driven designs that help children feel comfortable, confident, and in control. By reducing the anxiety of that first moment of changing into a gown, kids open up more freely with their care teams. 93% of hospital partners report easier conversations and 92% reporting more opportunities for meaningful interaction.
  • Starlight Gaming - Powered by Nintendo, Starlight Gaming Stations and handheld devices bring a familiar sense of routine and play into an unfamiliar environment. By giving kids opportunities for decision-making, goal setting, and accomplishment, gaming restores a sense of control and normalcy — reducing stress and improving mood for millions of seriously ill children over 28 years.
  • Starlight Hero Wagons - Designed exclusively by Radio Flyer for Starlight, turn hospital hallways into joy rides and give kids a reason to venture beyond their rooms, connect with other patients, and feel like a kid again. With IV pole attachments and easy-to-sanitize surfaces, they're built for the realities of hospital life while delivering adventure at every turn.
  • Starlight Toy Deliveries - Can brighten a tough day and be used as a therapeutic tool. Toys provide distraction, encourage emotional expression, and build trust between kids and their care teams. 78% of hospital partners report that toys created meaningful opportunities for patient interaction. Nearly half reported a reduced need to sedate patients. Delivered free through an easy-to-use platform, hospitals order exactly what they need, when they need it.
  • Starlight Families Program - Healing doesn't end at discharge. The Starlight Families Program bridges the gap between hospital and home, giving families early access to Starlight programs, digital tools, and a resource portal developed by Child Life Specialists with over 100 resources across 12 categories, including coping skills, pain management, and diagnosis-specific support.
