All Our Kin is a national nonprofit that trains, supports, and sustains family child care educators, helping them thrive as small business owners and early childhood specialists. We increase the quality, availability, and sustainability of family child care, reaching 45,000 children annually. Join us in building a more just, equitable child care system.

About the Organization

Through All Our Kin's programs, family child care educators—who nurture our youngest learners from their own homes—succeed as small business owners and early childhood specialists. In turn, parents have access to high-quality, affordable child care, and infants and toddlers gain the enriching experiences that prepare them to succeed.

All Our Kin is recognized as a national model and has been proven to raise the quality, availability, and sustainability of family child care. Today, we serve over 1,100 family child care educators in Connecticut and New York. In addition, we have worked with agencies in 33 states through training and technical assistance, reaching 45,000 children a year, and through our policy initiatives, we are shaping a new vision for family child care in the U.S.

At All Our Kin, we use a strength-based, high-touch approach to support educators through the licensing process, business and educational coaching, and much more. We are seeking to hire dedicated innovators who share our vision of a family child care workforce that is supported, fairly compensated, and treated equitably.

We live by our mission, and extend the same support to our staff as we do our educators. We seek to build a team that reflects the diversity we celebrate in our communities. We strive to grow as individuals and as an organization to end systems of oppression and promote justice. We encourage individuals of all backgrounds to apply for this position, and do not discriminate on any basis prohibited by applicable law.

About the Role

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Vice President, Finance and Administration (VPFA) will lead financial strategy and administration for All Our Kin's $12M budget.

The VPFA will lead the AOK's finance and administrative teams, including oversight of the annual budgeting process, financial planning and reporting, and management of our hybrid accounting model, working closely with our outsourced accounting firm while providing knowledgeable and empathetic financial leadership across the entire organization. This role requires a strong foundation in finance and accounting, paired with deep, practical expertise in nonprofit accounting, complex, diverse revenue recognition, and restricted grant compliance.

This is an ideal opportunity for a finance leader who also loves to teach and translate complex financial concepts into accessible, engaging, and culturally responsive terms for staff members at all levels, supporting broad buy-in and effective use of new systems and workflows. The VPFA will support one director-level staff member in Finance who manages day-to-day financial activities & projects, grants management, and AR/AP support, and one director-level staff member in Administration who manages day-to-day business compliance activities & projects, business legal, vendor contracts, facilities, information technology, and general org-wide operations projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Financial Management
  • Own AOK's $12M budget, leading multi-year forecasting, financial modeling, scenario planning, and capital/reserve strategy in partnership with the COO, CDO, CEO, and Board Finance Committee.
  • Oversee all GAAP-compliant accounting practices. Apply deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, restricted/unrestricted net asset management, and complex revenue recognition (including government/ foundation grants, contracts, and earned income).
  • Serve as the functional owner of our financial systems and manage migration & system integration efforts. Maintain hands-on system leadership over Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Divvy, Salesforce, etc.
  • Direct and manage our day-to-day outsourced accounting provider and project consultants to ensure data integrity, month-end closes, audit readiness, and tax filings.
Operational Management

In partnership with the Director of Administration:

  • Provide oversight for four leased regional facilities, vendor relationships, procurement standards, and contract administration.
  • Ensure organizational compliance regarding business licenses, regulatory filings, corporate insurance, risk management, vendor contract management, and legal requirements.
  • Supervise outsourced IT and ensure strong support of organizational technology.
Organizational and Team Leadership
  • Direct, mentor, and foster growth for a high-performing department. Supervise two direct reports: the Director of Grants Management & Contracts (who oversees a Finance Specialist) and the Director of Admin (who oversees an Operations Manager).
  • Act as the staff lead and manager of the Board Finance Committee, delivering clear dashboards, financial stories, and strategic risk analyses.
  • Design, translate, and roll out highly accessible financial training tools, visuals, and plain-language guidance that empower all staff, especially our non-finance staff, to navigate system adoption, expense management, and budget compliance with confidence.
  • Build trust and engage all staff in supporting organizational financial health and accountability.

Who You'll Work With

  • You will report to the COO.
  • You will oversee a team of four, including two direct reports: the Director of Grants Management & Contracts and the Director of Administration.

  • Excellent leadership, project management, and change management skills, with the ability to build relationships, mentor, and influence staff at all levels; excited to "roll up your sleeves" and do the work as well as manage and direct the work of others
  • Demonstrated people management experience with the ability to coach, manage, develop, and retain high-performing teams
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with a diverse set of colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared goals
